TMI Tuesday: Vacation Time

In many areas around the world, vacation season is approaching. This week’s TMI Tuesday asks you to tell us about your vacation style. Thank you to Virtual Sin for the questions.

1) What mode of transportation do you prefer for vacation: a) car, b) bus, c) train, d) cruise ship, e) airplane, f) other?

Car for regional trips and Airplane for everything else. Some day I might take a cruise, but I am deathly afraid of drowning. I enjoy trains, but they’re not my preferred method of transport unless it’s a subway. I really hate buses.

2) What baggage strategy do you use when flying: a) carry-on only, b) gate check excess bags, c) check baggage, d) ship bags ahead, e) other?

I always try to take only a carry-on, but if the trip is longer than 3 or 4 days I usually end up packing one bag and having a carry-on as well.

3) What is your accommodation strategy: a) luxury hotel, b) bed and breakfast c) cheap hotel/motel, d) stay with family/friends, e) camping or RV, e) other?

I very rarely stay with family or friends, with a few notable exceptions. I do like a little privacy and I actually enjoy staying in hotels! With that being said I have stayed in luxurious hotels (including one of the Penthouse suites at the famous Waldorf Astoria in NY), I have done cheap motels where I was afraid to use the linens, I have lived out of my suitcase in hostels, I have done beach side condos and cozy cottages. My absolute favorite place to stay is a bed and breakfast though, especially in a countryside or on a beach; log cabins come in close second.

4) What world-famous places have you visited on vacation? These can be commercial tourist attractions (Disney World), museums (The Louvre), historic places (Gettysburg), natural wonders (Yellowstone, Yosemite), or anything else?

Oh boy. Well. A short and more than likely incomplete list:
Space Needle, Disney World, Universal Studios, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (NY, London, Vegas), Statue of Liberty, St. Patrick’s Cathedral,  Empire State building, MoMa, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim, United Nations (NY and Vienna location), Capitol Hill, White House (outside, not in), Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Sydney Opera House, London Eye, London Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace (outside), Westminster Abbey, British Museum, Hofburg Imperial Palace, Schönbrunn Palace and gardens, Stephansdom Cathedral, Vienna Opera House, Austrian Parliament, Karlsplatz, Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp, Charles Bridge in Prague, Prague Castle, Astronomical clock, Old Town Square in Prague, Danube Promenade, Buda Castle, Hungarian Parliament, Hungarian Opera house, Fisherman’s Bastion, St. Stephen’s Basilica—-I’m going to stop here. This list is far too long already. Geeze. Needless to say, I’m decently traveled.

5) Where do you really, really want to go someday?

6) What you would you like to go back to see again?

I’d like to spend a year in Vienna. I didn’t spend nearly enough time in that beautiful, beautiful city.

Bonus: Have you ever had sex with someone you just met while on vacation? Tell us about it.

I met a lovely, lovely couple in Praha (Prague) at the Karlovy Lazne, the second night I was there. We went to a bar in new town after finding the Lazne a bit overwhelming, and then we went back to their place. Very fun people. Never saw or heard from them again.

Bonus, Bonus: While vacationing, have you ever had sex in a moving car, bus, train, or airplane?

I have given a hand job on a bus at the border cross heading into Slovakia from the Czech Republic.
